Dr Keesjan Cornelisse DVM, MS, PhD, Dipl.ACVIM, MRCVS

During his career, Dr Keesjan Cornelisse has worked on many challenging equine medical cases, involving patients from the family pony to the high performing equine athlete. 

Examples of cases include:

  • Upper and lower airway endoscopy, guttural pouches, gastroscopy and cystoscopy
  • Thoracic (lungs, pleura, heart), abdominal, and ophthalmic ultrasound
  • Broncho-alveolar lavages and tracheal washes
  • Indwelling chest drains (pleuritis, lymphosarcomas)
  • Conversion of atrial fibrillation
  • Lack of exercise tolerance, telemetric ECG, cardiac ultrasound, upper and lower airway endoscopy (static and over the ground)
  • Myopathies and Atypical Myopathy (AM)
  • Work up of chronic weight loss problems including oral glucose absorption tests, abdominocentesis, abdominal ultrasound, rectal mucosal biopsies
  • Work up of acute, chronic and recurrent colic
  • Renal failure, pyelonephritis, haematuria, bladder stones, cystoscopies
  • Liver disease and failure, hepato-encephalopathy
  • Liver and kidney biopsies
  • CSF taps, myelograms and work ups of wobblers, epilepsia, narcolepsia, temperostylohyoid arthropathy (“otitis media”) and intracranial abscesses
  • Intradermal skin testing, melanoma vaccinations
  • Adult horse and foal intensive care (ICU; including fluid and electrolyte corrections, TPN)
  • Endocrine problems (Cushing’s disease or PPID, Equine Metabolic Syndrome)
